News Release July 1st 2012 City of Casper
Wyoming to evict as many as 70 residents
    including Veterans from homeless shelter.
by House of Hope Casper on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at 10:11am ·

On Thursday June 28th the City of Casper Wyoming served a ten day Notice of Eviction upon the residents
of the House of Hope at 623 S. Wolcott Street. All residents would be required to evacuate by 5:00 p.m.
July 7th. At issue is non compliance of building code regulations for the property. As of this date there has
been no confirmed alternative housing come to light. One current family about to be displaced, has a
combined 37 years of serving America's military.

In January of this year Bishop Charles Trimm opened the doors to the former Catholic nunnery now under
private ownership in order to give homeless people including Veterans and their families a place to live away
from the brutal Wyoming winter weather. Their small rooms, some just 80 feet square, are able to house
entire families. Many of the residents have gained jobs through House of Hope's efforts but are just in that
transitory phase, needing a helping hand up to make the switch from being homeless to becoming productive
    and self sustaining once again.

Almost overnight, the operation became very successful. Trimm and his staff created the largest homeless
shelter in Wyoming. They receive no government funding and rely solely on private contributions of needed
items and cash. The organization is a non-denominational Christian charity and is staffed entirely by
volunteers. Since their opening Bishop Trimm and his staff have assisted residents in getting necessary
identification and social security cards, GED diplomas, College credits, job interviews, and steady
employment to once again join the ranks of productive, self sufficient taxpayers. Their greatest testimony is
the more than 200 people they have successfully placed into the workforce and their own domicile since
January. Excess donations of clothing, food and household goods not immediately required by the residents
goes to helping these families transition into independence. One family that was recently placed had a
combined 37 years of serving America's military.

At primary issue of the City's non-compliance ruling is the evacuation lighting and fire protection sprinkling
system. House of Hope has signed a contract with a company to perform the necessary upgrades to the
building to meet with these requirements, but lacks the necessary funding. The City of Casper deemed that
progress has not been made to their satisfaction and suddenly canceled their conditional use permit which
resulted in the eviction notice by the Fire Marshall's office. A hearing on this matter is set for Monday July
2nd at 6:00PM at City Hall. The House of Hope needs $ 153,000 materials and labor for the fire protection
upgrades to satisfy the City, $ 6,000 for kitchen retrofit completion, $40,000 by August 15th 2012 to
secure their option to purchase the building from the owners at the contract value of $ 449,000. House of
Hope Casper is a non profit 501(3)c organization.
